"Still I rise", by Maya Angelou

Bearing in mind what we've discussed about racism and segregation in the USA, I decided to share this lovely poem, by Maya Angelou, with you. I love this one! Let me know what is your impression about it, ok?

Still I rise

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with you hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise...

Yeah! No Man is an island...
This poem is a cry, maybe not for help, but a cry which shows pride, to defeat discrimination and racial prejudice...And nobody can fight alone, that's true! Maya Angelou is a strong woman, indeed, but she did not fight alone; just like her, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King (remember, Lipinhu?), and many others fought for a better world, where racism and discrimination should not exist! What a wonderful world this would be, don´t you agree?

I remember and personaly for me these persons are the "KINGS OF HISTORY" we fought for just, we figth for the right, for me dont exist diference "we are children of god" i agree with Gabriel o Pensador when he one song says:

"Salve, meus irmãos africanos e lusitanos, do outro lado do oceano
"O Atlântico é pequeno pra nos separar, porque o sangue é mais forte que a água do mar"
Racismo, preconceito e discriminação em geral;
É uma burrice coletiva sem explicação
Afinal, que justificativa você me dá para um povo que precisa de união
Mas demonstra claramente
Infelizmente
Preconceitos mil
De naturezas diferentes.."

Racismo e burrice...
